What is an employee recognition bragging wall? The term generally refers to an area in an
employee's office space that employee recognition awards are displayed.
If your business is office-oriented, each employee can have a space in their cubicle or office
to display their employee recognition awards.
If your business is shop-oriented or warehouse-oriented, a wall in the break room or meeting
room can be devoted to allowing employees to display their recognition awards.
Whether the bragging wall is individual or collective, the idea is the same. The bragging wall
allows display of hard-won recognition awards.
In many businesses, the Certificate of Appreciate awards are framed and displayed for all to see. Other awards may be presented as plaques and can be displayed
there are well. It may seem a small issue to allow employees to display their awards, but to the employee it is not a small issue.
If the employee receives a significant recognition award yet can not display it, your business
will not reap the full benefits of the employee recognition program.
What are the benefits to the company of providing employee recognition awards and allowing them to be displayed? The first, most
apparent benefit is that seeing the award on a daily basis reinforces in the employee's mind the kind of performance that is highly valued by the organization.
Whether the award is for perfect attendance or a company-wide Employee of the Year
recognition, the employee that sees their award daily will recall the joy of being recognized as an especially valuable member of the company.
The second benefit of having awards displayed is to increase
productivity and quality of work on the part of other team members.
Those employees will want to earn similar employee recognition awards and will strive to
produce the kind of work that earned the award for that employee. Everyone wants to be recognized for their work and will produce more and better work in order to achieve the recognition.
Some people call
these "ego walls", but they aren't about ego. The display of employee recognition awards is simply showing pride in their achievements. After all, everyone wants to be the best at what they do.
Achieving something noteworthy is a major accomplishment and should be treated as such.
